About
Polycystic Ovarian Disease
A prevalent hormonal condition known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects people who are allocated to the feminine gender at birth. The ovaries may form tiny fluid-filled clumps called follicles and cease to consistently produce eggs when PCOS is present. Although the precise origin of PCOS is unknown, a mix of environmental and genetic factors are likely involved. PCOS symptoms might vary, but they frequently include irregular periods, high testosterone levels that cause acne and hirsutism, or excessive hair growth, and ovarian cysts. Insulin resistance and PCOS are linked to chronic health problems like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A combination of the patient’s medical history, physical examination, and blood testing is usually used to make the diagnosis. In addition to taking medication to control symptoms like acne or excessive hair growth and to enhance insulin sensitivity, managing PCOS may entail lifestyle changes like consistent exercise and a balanced diet. Fertility treatments may be taken into consideration by those who are attempting to conceive. Although PCOS is a chronic illness, its symptoms can be effectively controlled with the right medical attention and lifestyle modifications. It’s critical that PCOS patients collaborate closely with medical specialists to address their unique needs and maximise their general health.
